Learn Quest Nest is looking for highly qualified university students majoring in Secondary Social Studies Curriculum and Instruction to work as interns with our organization.  Applicants must possess proficient English reading and writing skills.  Interns will be asked to complete a variety of tasks involving the creation of instructional materials that will be posted on www.studenthandouts.com.  Primarily, this will involve writing reviews of popular films with historical settings. historical fiction, and documentaries.  We are located in Brooklyn, New York, so ideally, our interns should be located in the New York City area.  However, living in the age of the internet, students living in other U.S. cities will be considered.

• A chance to learn the art of Curriculum and Instruction in a relaxed environment (as opposed to a busy classroom).
• Feedback, mentoring, and editorial commentary on professional writing.
• Experience implementing the core content standards in a variety of predictable and unpredictable "teachable moments."
• Close supervision by Learn Quest Nest via email, online chat, texting, and/or face-to-face meetings (depending upon location).
• Requested letters of recommendation during the intern's future job search(es).
• A personal "About Our Staff" web page on the site that the intern can use as a platform in his/her job search.  With web master approval, hosting of the intern's teaching portfolio, etc., is permissible.  Included on the web page will be links to materials the student has authored on the site and elsewhere (if applicable).
• An understanding of the variety of educational institutions operating today, from traditional large public schools to homeschooling co-ops.
• Opportunities to embark on educational initiatives of the student's own design.  We love to encourage instructional innovation, and our interns are welcome to propose their own ideas to us.
• Free educational resources that can be used in student and professional teaching.
• Guidance in creating a professional CV (as well as opportunities to "do things" that will flesh it out).

• Internships may last one or two semesters.  At the end of the first semester, the intern may or may not receive an invitation to continue.
• Internships can be completed while the intern is a full- or part-time student.  The average workload (unless the intern opts to embark on his/her own approved project) is between five and ten hours per week.
• Tasks may be completed in the setting of the intern's choosing.  Again, this is the age of the internet, and physical offices, with their mind-numbing and creativity-draining cubicles, are becoming obsolete.

• Send your resume and a writing sample to [email protected].  A cover letter is fine, but not necessary.  The writing sample should exhibit your grasp of English spelling, grammar, and usage; it can be anything from a two-page school essay to a large research paper.  The objective is to show us that you can write, not how much you can write.

• After we have reviewed your resume and writing sample, you may be asked to complete an interview.  Depending upon your location and school schedule, this may be done over email, the phone, an online chat, or in person.  Please familiarize yourself with the website, particularly the Social Studies materials, in order to prepare yourself for the interview.
